How to use this calculator
- Enter the PLR acquisition cost and any one-time rebranding or setup expense.
- Add the planned selling price, percentage-based selling fees, advertising cost per sale and expected first-month sales.
- Calculate to estimate contribution per sale, first-month profit, ROI and the number of sales required to recover the upfront investment.
Formula used by the calculator
Contribution per sale = selling price − percentage-based selling fees − advertising cost. First-month profit = contribution per sale × estimated sales − PLR acquisition cost − rebranding cost. ROI = first-month profit ÷ upfront PLR and rebranding investment.
Worked example
| PLR acquisition | $10.00 |
|---|---|
| Rebranding/setup | $5.00 |
| Selling price | $37.00 |
| Selling fees | 10% |
| Advertising cost per sale | $3.00 |
| Estimated monthly sales | 50 |
The sample inputs create a $15 upfront investment. A $37 sale with 10% percentage-based fees and $3 advertising cost contributes about $30.30 toward profit before other expenses. At that contribution level, the upfront $15 investment is recovered within the first comparable sale, and 50 sales would produce a large first-month ROI under the assumptions entered.
What makes PLR profit different
PLR products often begin with a one-time license or acquisition cost. Then you may invest in rewriting, design, a new cover, niche positioning, links, bonuses or sales-page assets. Those costs are different from payment fees or advertising that happen with each sale. Separating upfront investment from per-sale costs gives you a clearer view of the business model.
Understanding PLR ROI
ROI compares the estimated profit from the scenario with the upfront PLR and rebranding investment you entered. A high percentage can look attractive, but it depends on actually reaching the sales number used in the calculation. Treat ROI as a planning measure and replace estimated sales with real performance once the product is live.
Why rebranding can change the economics
Rebranding adds cost, but it can also improve perceived value and differentiation. A generic PLR ebook may be difficult to position. A product rewritten for one niche, reorganized around a clear outcome and packaged with consistent branding may support a stronger offer. The goal is not to minimize every rebranding expense; it is to spend where the change can make the product more useful and marketable.
License terms still matter
This calculator does not determine whether a PLR license allows the way you intend to sell or modify a product. Always read the actual license and follow its restrictions. A profitable-looking scenario is irrelevant if the planned resale method is not permitted.
What to do after launch
Once you have real sales, replace estimated advertising cost and monthly volume with actual averages. Track refund patterns, support costs and changes in payment fees. The more realistic the inputs become, the more useful the calculator is for deciding whether to continue, improve or retire a PLR offer.

What is PLR profit?
Here it means the estimated revenue remaining after the selling costs you enter, with the upfront PLR acquisition and rebranding investment deducted from the first-month scenario.
Does this calculator verify my resale rights?
No. Always read the license for the specific PLR product because rights and restrictions differ.
Why separate PLR cost from rebranding cost?
It lets you see how much of the upfront investment comes from acquiring the source material versus improving and packaging it.
Can I use it for PLR ebooks, reports and templates?
Yes, provided the inputs match your real costs and your license allows the intended resale method.
What does break-even sales mean here?
It is the minimum whole number of comparable sales needed for contribution per sale to recover the upfront PLR and rebranding investment.
